Final Piece for Project 1

  1. I get the feeling of an oriental room with this piece at first glance. The texture of the background is a nice touch.

The lines coming from behind the plant form tie the composition together, but I do see too much "blank" space between the human figure behind the "sheet" and the plant form. I almost see two compositions here; would love to see them incorporated better.

  2. I really appreciate that this image almost does not look like a photograph anymore but more like an illustration. I agree with Tyler that there are two competing compositions although I do love the figure I feel it should be taken out of this composition. The image itself is very minimalistic however by adding the figure into the composition it almost takes away from the clean minimalist quality.

  3. I love the textures you've created here. I really like that you made this more drawerly (that's not particularly a word, is it) than like a photo. I find this picture super interesting.

  4. The compositions is balanced between the leaves and the figure. I keep wanting to make a connections between the two of them. Your color chouice is very harmonious.

  5. very interesting approach, the color choices are very soothing yet different textures creates lots of interest. The image feels as Asian painting. I can not identify the object in bottom left which creates certain tension and maybe some different element would work there better to create more balance...

  6. I like your choice to keep a very natural/organic color scheme, ties in very well with the plant. That being said I keep asking myself how the figure on the left relates. If I cover up the bottom left corner the shape at the top (what I am assuming to be a coat) becomes very organic, it almost takes on the shape of a flower.
I love the textures you have used; in combination with the colors you have chosen they also help further a sense of depth. However, I feel like there is too much empty space towards the bottom center, and my eye keeps getting drawn there.
I also like how this image no longer resembles a photograph, that makes it stand out from others that I have seen.

  7. hmm, i like this piece. It's calm and has a lot of dimensions at the same time. the painterly look made this image work! I'd like to hear what you have to say about it.

  8. at first glance based purely on geometric form and composition, this piece is already intriguing. it gives the feeling as if you're looking around a corner, or seeing two perspectives; one of which you're not "supposed" to be witnessing. while still nonlocal, your colors are not tacky or too in your face which i appreciate. it's emphasis isnt on how many colors you can use but instead, how you can use them well compositionally. the eye can flow smoothly all around this piece without being uncomfortable.

  9. The illustrative quality works well for me here.A kind of vague and mysterious image, not really sure what is going on. That works for me because you have to do some mental work to decode this image. It is refreshing to see work that has a subtle quality to it. Soft feminine kinds of colors but a missing head on the female figure, mmmm. I leave this image with questions, which is always a good thing because it means you got me thinking.
